The Cummins Prison Band will return for a second consecutive appearance
at the Emerson PurpleHull Pea Festival’s “Pea-Stompin’ Street Dance”
Saturday night.
“We were very happy that we managed to book them last year, and we’re
elated we’ve got them coming back,” says Bill Dailey, spokesman for the
festival. “They’re extremely
good.”
The band, composed of four inmates from the Cummins Correctional Unit,
located near Grady, will play from 8:00 p.m. until midnight in the parking lot
near the Emerson School gymnasium as the festival’s finale.
The band has been in existence in one form or another for over 25 years.
They play approximately 50 events a year, and are allowed to perform only
within the state of Arkansas.
“This has really gotten to be a great social event for Emerson,” says
Dailey. “Bring your lawn chairs,
and just have a good time.”
