Pitts of Stephens narrowly edged out Molene Bailey of Emerson in the World Cup
PurpleHull Pea Shelling Competition at Saturday’s Emerson PurpleHull Pea
Festival.
In five minutes, Pitts shelled 8 3/4 ounces of purplehulls, compared to
Bailey’s 8 5/8 ounces. Doeleta
Weaver of Emerson took third place, shelling 7 3/8 ounces.
All three top finishers are former World Cup pea shelling champs.
In the Youth Division, Danielle Iverson of Springhill outshelled the
competition to take top honors, shelling 3 1/4 ounces in five minutes.
Second place went to Sarah Clendenen of Piasa, Illinois, with 3 1/8
ounces. Third place was a tie
between Phillip Fields of Emerson, and Tasha Moore of Falcon, Arkansas, each
shelling 2 7/8 ounces.
