PurpleHull Pageant to be June 22nd and 23rd

   The 2001 Emerson PurpleHull Pea Festival pageant will be June 22 and 23.  Competition will be divided into two parts, with the younger ages (infant through 8-years-old) competing on Friday, June 22, and the older ages (9 through 18-years-old) competing on Saturday, June 23.  Competition each night will begin at 6:30 p.m.

   Applications and instructions for the pageant are now available in Magnolia at Mr. Tuxedo, Hall’s Closet, GQ Fashions, The Lolly Pop Shop, and Ruth’s Dress Shop.  In Emerson, they may be obtained at the Buzz Buy and Emerson Food Mart.

   Applications may also be obtained online.  Go to the festival’s Web site, www.purplehull.com, click on “Pageant,” then follow the instructions given there.

   Categories of competition include:

   Friday, June 22, 6:30 p.m.:

   Baby Mr. Emerson (0-23 months)

   Mr. Emerson (2-5 years)

   Baby Miss (0-11 months)

   Toddler Miss (12-23 months)

   Petite Miss (2-3 years)

   Tiny Miss (4-5 years)

   Little Miss (6-8 years)

   Saturday, June 23, 6:30 p.m.

   Young Miss (9-11 years)

   Junior Miss (12-13 years)

   Teen Miss (14-15 years)

   Miss Emerson (16-18 years)

   The PurpleHull Pea Festival and its feature event, the World Championship Rotary Tiller Race, will be Saturday, June 30.  Winners of the pageant are encouraged to be in the Million Tiller Parade at 10:30 a.m., the day of the festival.
