Peas and souped-up garden tillers will be on statewide television this
week.
The Emerson PurpleHull Pea Festival and its World Championship Rotary
Tiller Race will be featured in a segment of a program on the Arkansas
Educational Television Network (AETN), to be broadcast twice within the next
week.
The program, “Celebrating Arkansas II,” will air on AETN at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday. AETN will repeat the
same 90-minute program at 10:00 p.m. Monday, March 11.
For those not on cable, the nearest AETN transmitter is in Gurdon,
broadcasting on Channel 9.
The PurpleHull Pea Festival was chosen as one of several noteworthy
Arkansas festivals and unusual events to be covered.
“The video was shot at last year’s festival and tiller race,” said
Bill Dailey, spokesman for the festival. “Given
the fact that we had a huge downpour in middle of the day, it’ll be
interesting to watch.”
Short interviews with several festival volunteers, participants and
tiller racers are included in the segment.
The PurpleHull Pea Festival is becoming accustomed to being in the
limelight. Last month it was
honored with the Arkansas “Festival of the Year” award at the annual meeting
of the Arkansas Festival Association.
The festival will be a two-day event this year, June 28 and 29.
The festival’s feature event, the World Championship Rotary Tiller
Race, will be Saturday, June 29.
